June 4-5th: Intro woodchip clay workshop:
Near New Denver, BC
| $100-$120 for 2 days
This is a traditional German building method,
that can be used for exterior & interior walls. It is my
preferred natural building method because it is very simple, fast,
inexpensive & uses 100% local natural materials. These
walls are also easy to plaster. Woodchip clay
can be used for infill walls in post & beam & stickframe
structures. Learn how to make the right recipe & mix with 2 different mixers.
See how to frame 6" and 12" walls and tour two finished buildings.
Discuss details to consider for electrical wiring & plastering woodchip clay walls.
May 28-29th: Earthen
Floor Workshop:
Near New Denver, BC | $100-$120 for 2 days/ $140-$150 for 3 days
Earthen floors are traditional adobe floors made
with clay, sand and straw. They are oiled and burnished to a durable,
water resistant (mopable) surface. In a 2 day workshop you can learn all of
the important steps & options for preparing the base & how to trowel down a
thick & level base layer. Learn how to make samples for a final floor
layer. In the optional 3rd day you will learn how to mix and trowel
down the finish layer over an earthen base, concrete or plywood subfloor.

to buy the ingredients for fine clay finish plasters & paints. How
to make color samples and mix various recipes for your own style of
walls eg smooth finish, textured surface, add chopped straw and mica for
effects. These plasters can be applied over drywall, painted
walls, stucco and existing earthen base coats on natural buildings. Also learn how to mix clay paints (alis)
& apply over
existing plasters. Tour the natural building projects at OUR Ecovillage which showcase a variety of clay plaster & paint finishes.

July 23-24th: How to Build Your Own Earthen Oven:

Earthen ovens are an easy and creative project.
Learn the proper steps to prepare the base for an earthen oven. Lay out
fire bricks, identify clay & learn how to make mixtures for the various
layers of an earthen oven. Mix cob & learn how to sculpt your oven into
any shape or sculpt designs on it. Discuss how to fire
your oven and bake in it. On day 2 there will be
the chance to see 2 different finished ovens & learn how to plaster an
oven to give it the final touches.
September 17th-18th 2011: 2 Day Earthen Plaster

September 24th-25th 2011: 2 Day Clay Finish Plaster

Intro
to clay finish plasters: find out where to buy materials such as
powdered clays & pigments. Learn how to mix clay finish plaster &
apply over an earthen base coat. The same plaster can also be applied
over various surfaces including drywall, painted walls & stucco.
Learn how to prepare those surface with flour paste primer before
plastering. See how to make color samples and use additives such
as chopped straw & mica to create unique wall finishes. Learn how
to use trowels efficiently and with proper techniques.

painted walls: Vancouver Island,

Learn how to prepare drywall joints with non toxic clay joint
fillers, how to prepare drywall and painted walls with flour
paste primer. How to make your own inexpensive clay
plasters from scratch and do various creative finishes.
Learn where to buy materials and pigments. You will have
the opportunity to learn professional quality trowelling
techniques for smooth or textured walls. The same
techniques and recipes can be used over stucco or existing
earthen base coats. You will also learn how to mix
inexpensive clay paints from scratch and use various pigments
and mica for special effects.
